Tsunagi
In the collection of the Japanese sword it is the goal of the advanced collector to conserve an endeared sword in its premier state. The polished sword is stored in shirasaya. newly made to protect the finished sword and insure that it will be preserved in this pristine condition, but the koshirae in turn is left without the blade. In order to provide an adequate storage /display method for this koshirae a tsunagi is made by the sayashi. The e tsunagi is a duplicate of the sword made out of honoki with ki habaki. Sword with shirasaya. and koshirae with tsunagi is the premier method by which the sword is preserved
